The opening ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games in August played homage to the advances made in physics in the last few centuries.

Much of the ceremony was narrated by the late Professor Stephen Hawking and featured sections on Newton and the recently discovered Higgs boson.

The recent discovery of what looks like the Higgs boson will change our perception of the world, and opens the possibility of a theory of everything.
